What’s New?

On Feb. 29, 2024, BOEM approved a two-year suspension of the operations term of Ocean Wind LLC's commercial lease (Renewable Energy Lease Number OCS-A 0498), and issued a suspension order pursuant to 30 C.F.R. § 585.418.

Construction and Operations Plan (COP) Approval

On Sept. 21, 2023, BOEM approved the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the Ocean Wind 1 Offshore Wind Farm Project and its associated project easement.

Record of Decision (ROD) 

On Jul. 5, 2023, the Department of the Interior announced the approval of the construction and operation of the Ocean Wind 1 project offshore New Jersey. Located about 13 nautical miles southeast of Atlantic City, the project will have an estimated capacity of 1,100 megawatts of clean energy, capable of powering over 380,000 homes.  

The ROD documents the decision to approve Ocean Wind LLC’s plan to construct up to 98 wind turbines and up to three offshore substations within its Lease Area.

On December 8, 2020, Ocean Wind LLC applied to BOEM to assign a portion of lease #OCS-A 0498 to Orsted North American Inc. BOEM approved the assignment on March 26, 2021. The lease area assigned to Orsted North America Inc. now carries the new lease number #OCS-A 0532. Orsted North America Inc.’s lease is subject to all terms and conditions of the original lease. On May 17, 2018, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management approved the Site Assessment Plan (SAP) for Lease OCS-A 0498 (Ocean Wind LLC). The SAP approval allows for the installation and operation of two floating light and detection ranging buoys (FLIDARs) and one metocean/current buoy within the lease area. The SAP was filed on September 15, 2017, with revisions filed in November 2017, January 2018, and February 2018.

Notice of Intent (NOI) to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Scoping

On March 30, 2021, BOEM published a NOI to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Ocean Wind Farm Project Offshore New Jersey. The following documents are available for your viewing.

The Notice of Intent initiated a 30-day public comment period. During the public comment period, BOEM hosted three virtual scoping meetings where the public could learn more about the Construction and Operations Plan (COP), ask questions, and provide oral testimony.  All three virtual public scoping meetings were recorded and can be found below, along with copies of the meeting presentations:

Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) 

On August 3, 2022, BOEM announced the 15-day extension of the public comment period for the Ocean Wind 1 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Ocean Wind LLC’s Proposed Wind Energy Facility Offshore New Jersey. The DEIS public comment period ended at 11:59 p.m. eastern time on August 23, 2022. Find the comments on http://www.regulations.gov and search for Docket No. BOEM-2022-0021.

Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) 

On May 26, 2023, BOEM published a NOA for the Ocean Wind 1 FEIS for Ocean Wind LLC's Proposed Wind Energy Facility Offshore New Jersey. The following documents are available for your viewing.

On April 24, 2023, Ocean Wind 1 submitted an updated Construction and Operation Plan. This version of the COP informs the basis for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that was published on May 26, 2023.
