This data set contains Continental Shelf Boundaries (CSB) lines in ESRI shapefile format for the BOEM Alaska Region. The CSB defines the seaward limit of federally managed OCS lands. This CSB file only includes the lateral boundaries between the United States and Canada or Russia. That portion of the CSB defined by the 200 nautical mile line has not yet been calculated. Because GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize coordinates, these GIS files are NOT an OFFICIAL record for the exact CSB.
The CSB line and other cadastre information the BOEM produces are generated in accordance with 30 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 256.8 to support Federal land ownership and mineral resource management.
The BOEM is making its existing cadastre data available at http://www.boem.gov/Oil-and-Gas-Energy-Program/Mapping-and-Data/Index.aspx These data include Official Protraction Diagrams (OPDs), and Supplemental Official OCS Block Diagrams (SOBDs) in pdf format, and digital spatial data in ArcGIS shapefile format. In order to deal smoothly with the international dateline, positive longitudes like +175 degrees were converted into negative longitudes like –185 degrees.

The CSB line coverage was built using Arc/Info double precision.
The CSB file only includes the lateral boundaries between Canada and the U.S.-Russia Provisional Maritime boundary line.
Coordinates for points forming CSB lines are used as published and stored to 3 decimal places of a meter in the TIMS database. However, GIS functions which build topology, change projection, etc. may degrade coordinate values. For that reason, these GIS files are NOT an OFFICIAL record.
Coordinates for points forming CBS lines were taken from State Department, Federal Register, or International treaty sources.
The source data for CSB lines are data provided by the U.S. Department of State, the Federal Register, or international treaty/agreements. The location coordinates for the points forming these boundaries are used as published. These published coordinates may be transformed to the required horizontal datum utilizing NADCON software.
