Ocean Wind 2 (OCS-A 0532)

Commercial Lease

On November 9, 2015, BOEM held a competitive lease sale (i.e., auction) for the Wind Energy Area offshore New Jersey. The auction lasted seven rounds. RES America Developments, Inc. was identified as the winner of Lease Area OCS-A0 498 (160,480 acres) and US Wind Inc. was identified as the winner of Lease Area OCS-A 0499 (183,353 acres). The commercial wind energy leases went into effect on March 1, 2016.

In April 2016, RES America Developments Inc., submitted a request to assign 100 percent of OCS-A 0498 to Ocean Wind LLC (Ocean Wind). The assignment was approved by BOEM and became effective on May 10, 2016. On December 8, 2020, Ocean Wind requested a partial assignment of lease OCS-A 0498 to Ørsted North America, Inc. BOEM approved the partial assignment and became effective on March 26, 2021. The Lease Area assigned to Ørsted North America, Inc., known as Ocean Wind 2, carries the new lease number OCS-A 0532 and contains 84,955 acres (341 km2). Lease OCS-A 0498 contains 75,526 acres (306 km2). 
 

On December 8, 2020, Ocean Wind LLC applied to BOEM to assign a portion of lease OCS-A 0498 to Ørsted North America Inc. BOEM approved the assignment on March 26, 2021. The lease area assigned to Ørsted North America Inc., known as Ocean Wind 2, carries the new lease number OCS-A 0532. Ocean Wind 2’s lease is subject to all terms and conditions of the original lease. Please find a copy of the assignment below:

 

On May 17, 2018, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management approved the Site Assessment Plan (SAP) for Lease OCS-A 0498 (Ocean Wind LLC). The SAP approval allows for the installation and operation of two floating light and detection ranging buoys (FLIDARs) and one metocean/current buoy within the lease area. The SAP was filed on September 15, 2017, with revisions filed in November 2017, January 2018, and February 2018. The SAP was approved prior the partial lease assignment to Ocean Wind 2, resulting in lease number OCS-A 0532 (see Lease Assignment tab). Ocean Wind 2 is subject to all conditions in the approved SAP.
 

Construction and Operations Plan

Ocean Wind 2 has not submitted a Construction and Operations (COP) for BOEM review. Once a COP is submitted, BOEM will post it here.
