Economics is a critical component of the work completed at BOEM. BOEM’s mission is to manage development of U.S. Outer Continental Shelf energy and mineral resources in an environmentally and economically responsible way.
Economics at BOEM is completed by interdisciplinary teams of experts who provide economic analysis in support of policies on offshore leasing of oil and gas, renewable energy, and critical and marine minerals on the Outer Continental Shelf. Economic analysis is rigorous, clear, accurate, and timely over a wide variety of topics, including: designing lease and fiscal terms, completing economic analyses for the National OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program, analyzing regulatory impact, writing economic impact analyses, and formulating budget projections. Energy economics supports both internal and external stakeholders and considers the dynamics of energy markets and the overall economy.
