Washington - The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) will hold the third meeting of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Standing Committee on Offshore Science and Assessment on July 11 and 12, 2016, at the National Academies’ Keck Center, 500 5th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. The meeting is open to media and the public, although seating is limited. The Academies require advance registration to attend in person.
The public session on July 11 is scheduled from 10:15 a.m.-5:30 p.m. EDT. The committee will take comments and questions from the media and the public on July 11 from 5:00-5:30 p.m., including those submitted by email to osbfeedback@nas.edu by 4:00 p.m. Time permitting, questions will be read in the order they are received and potentially grouped together. The July 12 public session is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. - noon; no questions will be read on that day. The meeting will be live webcast both days.
The agenda will cover strategic research priorities from the BOEM regional perspective and how they fit into BOEM’s mission and goals; defining metrics for meeting strategic priorities and research goals; the peer-review process for competitive proposal selection and completed research; and presentations by academic experts on Arctic sea-ice modeling and forecasting needs and advances.

The committee encompasses a broad range of expertise in both natural and social sciences, relevant disciplines within those broad areas, and collective expertise from academia, industry, government, and the non-profit world in all four Outer Continental Shelf regions.
