On July 15, 2022, BOEM published a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for potential future offshore wind energy development in the New York (NY) Bight in the Federal Register, which initiated a 30-day public scoping period. During the scoping period, BOEM is accepting public comment on topics to be addressed in the PEIS.
BOEM is extending the public comment period by 15 calendar days in response to stakeholder requests, and to provide more time for comments from all interested parties. BOEM will now accept public comments on the PEIS through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
Comments gathered during this time will help BOEM identify what it should consider as part of the PEIS. The PEIS will analyze potential impacts from wind energy development activities in the NY Bight region, as well as changes to those impacts because of adopting measures to avoid, minimize, mitigate and monitor such potential impacts.
