Last week, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced the release of a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for public comment on the Morro Bay Wind Energy Area (WEA), located off the coast of central California.

The release of the draft EA also initiated a 30-day public comment period, which will be open until May 6, 2022.

To facilitate public input, BOEM will host two virtual meetings (in Pacific Time):

  • April 14, 2022, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • April 19, 2022, from 9 a.m. – noon

The input received during the public meetings and throughout the comment period will be used to inform BOEM’s preparation of a final EA, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act, to consider potential impacts from site characterization (e.g., biological, archeological, geological and geophysical surveys) and site assessment activities (e.g., installation of meteorological buoys) within the WEA.

Additional information about the meetings and details on how to comment can be found on BOEM’s website.
