On May 1, 2024, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) published a Notice of Availability (NOA) of a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for Commercial Wind Lease Issuance in two Wind Energy Areas (WEAs) designated off the coast of Oregon, along with a 30-day comment period to solicit public input. In response to feedback from Oregon Tribes and stakeholders, BOEM announced on May 30, 2024 a comment period extension through 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, June 14, 2024. BOEM also announced an additional virtual public meeting on the Draft EA on June 5, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
The draft EA considers the environmental consequences associated with issuing commercial wind leases in the two Oregon WEAs and associated site characterization activities (i.e., biological, archeological, geological, and geophysical surveys and core samples) and site assessment activities (i.e., installation of meteorological buoys) offshore Oregon. Additional information on the Draft EA and virtual public meeting can be found on the Oregon state activities page.
