BOEM is pleased to announce that the 2023 Environmental Studies Program (ESP) Year in Review report is now available.

The ESP Year in Review summarizes the environmental studies BOEM published from October 2022 through December 2023. It provides concise descriptions of each study’s purpose and findings, and how BOEM will use the research results. The report covers a range of topics, including potential behavioral effects of offshore wind development activities on various marine species in the Atlantic and Pacific, offshore oil and gas platform and drilling rig downwash in the Gulf of Mexico, and the impacts of oil exposure and changing snow cover on sea ice microbial communities in Alaska.

In addition to the study summaries, the Year in Review also provides insight into BOEM’s study process, the types of research BOEM conducts, and how the bureau and other organizations use this scientific information. View the report here: https://www.boem.gov/environment/how-we-do-research.
