Public Affairs Officer
John Callahan serves BOEM’s Alaska OCS Region as its public affairs officer, developing and managing a wide range of internal communications and media-relations initiatives.
John grew up in Alaska in a small town off the road system. He has led or coordinated public affairs or communications programs for Alaska’s largest institution of higher learning, its largest Alaskan-owned bank, its largest health system and one of its oldest and most-respected children’s non-profit organizations. Prior to that he worked as a commercial fisherman and as a legislative aide specializing in natural-resource issues. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
John is also an officer with the Alaska Air National Guard, where for many years he served as the chief of public affairs for one of the nation’s largest and busiest Air National Guard wings. He lives in Anchorage with his three children and spends every possible moment outside.
