To understand the full life cycle of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, BOEM has developed the Greenhouse Gas Life Cycle Energy Emissions Model (GLEEM). GLEEM estimates GHG emissions from the onshore processing, storage, and distribution of oil, gas, and coal—known as “midstream emissions”—and the consumption of oil, gas, and coal products, or “downstream emissions.”
GLEEM was originally a Linux-based model, and BOEM converted the model to a Microsoft® Excel format in 2023.
