BOEM is taking public comment on a Notice of Intent (NOI) to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Sunrise Wind project offshore New York.
The NOI first published on August 31 was corrected September 3 to extend the comment period to October 4, 2021, and to make technical corrections. Here are links to the documents:
During the public comment -- or scoping -- period, BOEM is asking for information that will help define issues and sources of information that should be considered in the EIS. During that time, BOEM will host three virtual scoping meetings where you can learn more about the COP, ask questions, and provide oral testimony.
BOEM’s virtual scoping meetings are planned for the following dates:
Thursday, September 16, 2021; 5:30 p.m.
Monday, September 20, 2021; 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 22, 2021; 5:30 p.m.
If you are unable to register via the web link, you may contact Environmental Protection Specialist, Jeffrey Hesse.
Comments can be submitted in any of the following ways:
- During any of the virtual public meetings, you may provide oral testimony. BOEM will limit such testimony to five minutes per speaker. Any speaker who wishes to provide more information than the five minutes allowed is encouraged to do so as a written comment.
- In written form, delivered by mail or delivery service, enclosed in an envelope labeled, “Sunrise Wind COP EIS” and addressed to Program Manager, Office of Renewable Energy, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, 45600 Woodland Road, Sterling, Virginia 20166; or
- Through the regulations.gov web portal: Navigate to http://www.regulations.gov and search for Docket No. BOEM-2021-0052. Click on the “Comment Now!” button to the right of the document link. Enter your information and comment, then click “Submit.”
BOEM does not consider anonymous comments. Please include your name and address as part of your submittal. All comments submitted will be made part of the public record and will be posted publicly without change. Comments must be sent by or postmarked no later than 11:59 PM on October 4, 2021.
